Get me out of here!

An idea has reemerged.  I am now exploring the possibility of transfering my education to Charlotte, NC for next year.  This was pushed further into the realm of real possibilities after an Easter weekend dining fiasco.  There was nothing posted to alert us to the fact that our dining options would be severely limited and many of us were surprised by this when Red Sauce just wasn't opened one day.  This weekend was no longer than a standard weeked here, just less populated.  Here, for my own documentation, and your reading enjoyment, is the e-mail that I sent to our school president:

Hello,

My name is Matthew McDonald, I am a student of the JWU culinary arts program. I am seeking clarification on why there were no posted or e-mailed notifications of the amendment to the availability of the dining services here this weekend. I have tolerated more inconveniences and disappointments than I care to admit since my arrival to Providence in September. It is a regular occurence that the HAC building is locked during food service, there are several truly stupid people given responsibility and authority in the halls, and I am stuck, surrounded by hundreds of unchecked eighteen-year-olds. Fine. Much of this is par for the course, but now, at least two meals have been taken away from me. Had I been alerted to the unavailability of the services, I would have planned accordingly. I was not. I don't think that anyone was. This is inappropriate. This is not even a long weekend. I paid for my meal plan, and the services are not being provided. Between this today, and the doors being locked an hour early Thursday at the HAC building, that is nineteen dollars and fifty cents. Please bear in mind that is for just one weekend. I have demonstrated patience beyond reason in my classes and living environment. I have made a serious investment here, and I would like to know why I am seeing such disregard in return.

I am not even sure if you are aware of the atmosphere that has been constructed for us here, but I am sure that you should be. I know that nobody's job is an easy one, but you need to know what is going on at our beautiful school, and this seems like a pretty major oversight.

Now, I will be going out to eat tonight, and I assume tomorrow. Please let me know where to forward the bill.

Thanks,
Matt McDonald

That went out Saturday after I found out that my dinner plans had been changed for me.  I asked an RA (Mike, he hates the word "retarded" because he has a sever learning disability.  That is what he told someone in front of me.) what was going on and he told me they were closed.  I knew that.  He told me repeatedly not to blame the students, because it wasn't their fault, it was management.  Thank you "retard Mike" for explaining that.  I was not, in fact, going to send out a letter of complaint to every student employed through dining services.  He then showed me a list of places that would be open the next day, Easter, and said "that's all I know."  I can agree with that statement.  He also said "nothin' you can do about it."  I immediately disagreed and wrote that letter.  Being a retard is on thing, but put weak on top of it, and you are just sad.  Retard strength, not snobbish surrender.

I was a little nervous to send my complaints directly to the top of the food chain here, and I am still anxious to hear back from her.  For now, I will just sit and try to figure out why full tuition is still charged for unguided internships, and where the hell I'm going to do my learning and living in the Fall.
